The Beauty of Psalm 91 (Part 2)

If you read my blog from last week, I wrote about the wonderful ways to truly embrace Psalm 91 in our daily lives and in prayer.  It is so wonderful that God breathed these scriptures into people long ago so that we would have the Holy Bible today.  I am always amazed how He does this and how it speaks to me when I read and meditate on it.  I have to say, God is good, all the time and all the time God is good! The thing is, to really understand that statement you have to have more than a head knowledge of God, you have to give Him your heart and allow His Holy Spirit to begin to work in you. In this way, you can fully embrace Psalm 91 or any scripture and see the good things in life also in a spiritual way.

I want to write just a few of my S.O.A.P. (see last week’s blog) on Psalm 91.

  1. Psalm 91:1 Those that live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
  2. God is the creator of the universe, He is everywhere so His shadow would cover every place I could ever go. To be in His shelter would be complete, so why should I ever fear?
  3. Fear not, picture myself surrounded by His arms and living in His shadow. Believe His word and reject/rebuke fear when it comes calling. When evil comes in my presence, begin to pray under my breath for direction and discernment.
  4. Psalm 91: 11-12 For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
  5. When calamity comes my way, He will hold me up and see me through it.
  6. Trust, daily prayer walks me in and out of situations safely. It’s that communication that keeps God knowing I still trust Him and I want Him in my life.

I have a story to tell about Psalm 91, especially verse 11 and 12.  In 2017 I was in a car wreck, see the picture at the end.  I was stopped to turn left into the church parking lot and a Ford F250 hit me at around 45-50 miles an hour, so the State Patrol told me.  To me it sounded like a semi tractor trailer hitting me.  I remember the noise being so loud and things hitting me and breaking. I remember my car being moved off the highway and down into the park across the street before stopping.  I hit my head on my gearshift because I was forced sideways.  I felt pain in my spine and I was concerned about really being hurt, but people began to pray for me at the side of my car and the pain began to lessen. I had broken glass in my mouth and in my hair but I did not get a single cut. I only received a little bump and scratch on my forehead. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance, checked out and was able to walk out of the hospital in good shape without the need for any pain medication. I didn’t even have a back ache.  Now this is the fascinating part of the story; later when I talked to a very spiritual friend of mine and told her the complete story, she said while she was listening to me, she got a very clear vision of angels holding me up the whole time in that car during that crash.  Remember Psalm 91: 11-12 For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.  After she told me about the vision, I knew it was true, I had no doubt in my mind. I was also praising God that I did not happen to have any of my grandchildren in the back seat of my car; it was destroyed.

Here’s the thing, for us to live to be say 60 years old or any age, that means that we have been protected, mentally, physically and spiritually many times over.  We just don’t realize it or even think about it.  God is working on our behalf because we love Him and He loves us.  We need to thank God everyday for the protection He provides because we do not and may never know what calamity we have missed or will miss.  I’m not saying we won’t have things happen but I know for a fact I have missed a good share of them. When I was in a car wreck, my friend was given a vision of what really happened.  Hey the proof was in the fact that I walked out of that hospital in good shape.  I was reading this in Genesis this week, Genesis 18:14a NLT “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

We serve a BIG God whose shadow covers all, why do we live in doubt and fear?  Maybe when we get tired of doing it all on our own, we will begin to walk, live and breathe in the shadow of the Most High God, willingly and reverently. It’s a real thing and I’m here today able to have the opportunity to testify to the goodness, protection and grace of our Lord.

Prayer

Lord, Cover us, protect us mentally, physically and spiritually.  Help us relax in your arms and let go of the things that cause us so much stress.  May we wake up every morning praising your name and thanking you for all the protection we have enjoyed.  May each day bring us closer to you as we stand on your word and honor you with our life.  Thank you, Lord, In Jesus’ name, amen.

God Bless

Sally

  1. So well put Sally! I’m so thankful that God’s angels lifted you up and protected you in that crash, and in all the trials of your life (and all our lives)! What a mighty God we serve!
